This week’s blog isn’t about insurance, It’s about autism. April is Autism Awareness month and our local Autism support group is having a fund raiser for our community’s autistic children. So, we teamed up with the Autism Society of Northcentral Indiana (ASNCI) to raise awareness and funds to support their Summer Camp and other functions for local autistic children and their families.
Did you know that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported last year that 1 in 68 children have been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It’s also reported that it’s 4.5 times more common in boys than girls. That’s an alarming number considering that less than two decades ago the statistic was 1 in 150.
Here in La Porte IN the ASNCI has been holding a free summer camp for autistic children as well as providing Christmas and Halloween parties for the autistic children and their families. In addition, they’ve been holding bi-monthly teen nights for autistic teen.
This would not be possible without the support of local families and businesses. The ASNCI’s biggest fundraiser is there annual “Walkathon”. The walkathon this year is at the La Porte Co Fairgrounds Saturday April 21st from 11-1.
We will be there handing out balloons for the kids and raising money through a raffle. We will be raffling off a Samsung Galaxy Tab A Tablet (32 gig) with Otter box Defender cover and screen protector. Tickets are only a $1 and all money raised will be donated to the ASNCI.
The raffle tickets will be available from now until the end of the month. If you’re interested in helping by purchasing a ticket please stop in our office at 1405 E. Lincolnway La Porte or contact our office at 219-362-5253. Also, you can stop out at the walk Saturday April 21st 11-1.
