With Summer upon us you don't have to look far to spot a motorcycle on the road. Today Motorcycle owners have many options to accessorize their bikes. These "upgrades" aren't cheap and that's important to consider when choosing the right motorcycle coverage.
Customization of motorcycles seems to be everywhere these days. I've been to a Harley Davidson dealership and have seen custom accessories added to band new bikes increasing their costs by the thousands.
The other day I was reminded of how expensive motorcycle accessories can be. I was speaking with a friend who told me about being at a Motorcycle show earlier this year. He was looking at a new Indian. The MSRP with the added accessories totaled $25,000. Shocking to him was the fact that the accessories amounted to $6,000 of the price.
Here’s what you want to know. Motorcycle Insurance Carriers will only cover a small portion of Motorcycle Accessories unless the accessories are endorsed. Also “carried contents” such as your phone, camera, or other personal effects on your bike need endorsed to have coverage too.
As an Insurance Advisor, knowing that your motorcycle has custom accessories and what you carry with you on your bike is valuable information. If you buy a new motorcycle, insure it for replacement cost and it’s stolen or wrecked, most Insurance carriers will replace the motorcycle only with little or no coverage for your accessories and carried contents you might have on it.
I invite you to reach out to me for a review of your motorcycle policy. I’ll work for you to find the coverage you need at a fair price. I wish all of the Motorcycle riders a safe riding season. As for the rest of us, save a life and be aware motorcycles are everywhere!
